 Since 2018, Heidi has been leading Canterbury’s efforts to provide exceptional care for seniors, including those living with dementia. With a Bachelor of Nursing, an executive MBA, and credentials as a Certified Executive Coach, Heidi brings a unique blend of clinical expertise, strategic thinking, and heartfelt compassion to everything she does.

 Driven by her passion for human connection, Heidi is a tireless advocate for enhancing seniors’ care services and ensuring that all residents, regardless of where they are at on their journey of aging, continue to live with dignity, joy, and purpose. Under her leadership, Canterbury is more than just a seniors’ residence — it’s a community where every person matters and every story is honored.

 For Heidi, this isn’t just work — it’s a calling.

Rita Filice is our HR Director. She joined Canterbury Foundation in 2022. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree with specialization in human resources management and a Certified Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation.

Rita is a collaborative and accomplished HR leader who has dedicated her career to bringing out the best in people. Her positive energy and outlook drive productivity and make anything possible. As part of a series of engagements ranging from performance management, employee engagement to developing HR frameworks, Rita has created solutions that delivered practical and meaningful business results. Rita dedicates her energy to family and friends. She is proud to be Canadian, loves living in Alberta, and takes every opportunity to visit the beautiful Rocky Mountains.

Sacha joined Canterbury Foundation in 2020 as Business Development & Licensing Manager and, in late 2022, was promoted to Director, Business & Community Development, where she oversees all marketing, advertising and promotional activity, leasing and Life Enrichment. 

With over 20 years of expertise in marketing, business development, client services and brand strategy, Sacha demonstrates a proven ability to forge strong partnerships and drive meaningful growth. Known for her creativity, relationship-building skills, and commitment to excellence, Sacha plays a key role in advancing Canterbury’s reputation as the leader in seniors’ care and housing, as well as in ensuring the fulfillment of its Promise of Home for residents and families.

Beyond her professional work, Sacha and her husband enjoy the joyful chaos of raising two teenage sons and sharing their home with Posey, the Miniature Schnauzer and Leonard Cohen, the Toy Poodle. 

Stephanie Turenne brings over 25 years of experience in nursing leadership, quality improvement, and patient safety. Stephanie was born and raised in the Northwest Territories and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Saskatchewan. 

She began her career in the Intensive Care Unit at Edmonton's Royal Alexandra Hospital, where she developed a strong foundation in acute care. This experience led to a meaningful career serving the Canadian Armed Forces in various capacities, including Primary Care Nurse, Clinical Services Manager, and, most recently, Regional Quality and Patient Safety Advisor, overseeing patient safety and quality programs across multiple healthcare centers. 

Stephanie has been the Director of Health Services at Canterbury Foundation since November 2024.

Ram Sharda holds a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and a Red Seal Chef Certification, bringing more than 20 years of hospitality and operations leadership experience to Canterbury Foundation. As Director of Hospitality, he oversees Dietary Services, Housekeeping, Cherubs Café, and the Beauty Salon, ensuring residents receive high-quality services that support comfort, well-being, and a positive living experience.

With a strong focus on resident-centred care, operational excellence, and team development, Ram is committed to creating welcoming environments and meaningful experiences for residents every day. His leadership combines practical operational expertise with a people-first approach, helping teams deliver exceptional service while continuously improving the resident experience.

Michelle Marshall holds a Bachelor of Commerce specializing in Accounting and a CPA since 2018. She has over 15 years of accounting and leadership experience in the real estate management and construction sectors. Michelle has been with Canterbury Foundation since February 2025. 

Glyn Eales joined Canterbury Foundation as Executive Assistant in 2020 and has over 20 years of administration experience. She is originally from South Africa and holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology. Her skills lie in organization and attention to detail. Fun facts about Glyn - she has lived on 3 different continents and has completed an ultramarathon of 90km. Glyn is married and has 2 sons.

Leana Nielsen is the Resident Experience Manager at Canterbury Foundation, where she has dedicated 17 years to enriching the lives of seniors. Her deep passion for senior care stems from a close bond with her late grandfather, which has led to Canterbury holding a special place in her heart. 

Beginning her Canterbury career as an Activity Coordinator, Leana advanced into leadership through a profound commitment to resident well-being, continuously expanding her expertise with specialized courses in dementia and executive leadership. Today, Leana champions an environment of joy, positivity,  and connection by overseeing the Life Enrichment Team, the Volunteer Program, the Canterbury Gardens, and serving as the Manor Resident Council liaison, among many others. 

Outside of work, Leana enjoys art and nature. She loves spending active time at the cabin with her husband and two children—who also enjoy volunteering at Canterbury—participating in snowmobiling, skiing, hiking, dirt biking and water sports to name a few.

Camille Snow is the Community Experience Manager at Canterbury Foundation, where she leads efforts to enhance connection, communication, and engagement across the community. She oversees the concierge and reception team, ensuring residents, families, and visitors receive a welcoming and supportive experience from the moment they arrive.

In addition to team leadership, Camille manages internal and external communications, including marketing, newsletters, social media, website content, and community updates. 

She also supports staff engagement initiatives such as Team CarePal and recognition programs, helping foster a positive and connected workplace culture.

Passionate about storytelling, relationship-building, and service excellence, Camille is dedicated to creating meaningful experiences for residents, families, and staff alike. Her work focuses on strengthening community connections and sharing the stories that reflect the heart of Canterbury.

Arnel Gallo was born and raised on the beautiful island of Cebu, Philippines, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from AMA University, Class of 2001.

Before coming to Canada, he worked overseas for seven years as an Equipment Maintenance Engineer with ACER. Since moving to Canada in 2009, he continued his career in facility and building maintenance, bringing over 14 years of experience in maintenance operations and facility management.

He is passionate about providing safe, reliable, and well-maintained environments for residents and staff. Outside of work, he enjoys giving back to the community as a youth basketball coach and trainer in Edmonton, where he mentors and supports young athletes in their development both on and off the court.

He enjoys serving the residents, staff, and Canterbury community with dedication, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence.

Rev. Colleen Sanderson joined the Canterbury Foundation in 2022. She brings with her a Bachelor of Education, with a specialty in Music and a strong background in classroom teaching. After an experience walking 150 km of the El Camino De Santiago in Spain, she felt a called to Ordained Ministry, and left classroom to teaching to be an Anglican Priest. As a parish priest with 15 years of experience, in both rural and urban settings, she has a particular passion for ministry with Seniors in community and end of life care. She brings with her a calm and faithful presence, and a love for God, and community, a love of music, steeped tea, and her cat, “Mrs. Sparkles the Cat”.

Hailing from England, Hilary Lindenbach has worked at Canterbury for almost 20 years. During this time, she has supervised several departments. As Resident Services Supervisor she currently oversees Housekeeping, Companion Care and the Salon. Working with Seniors has become a passion. Who knew! Hilary is known for thinking outside the box and loves working with both the residents and her staff.

Randy Burant first started at Canterbury as a Maintenance Technician in April of 1995. Soon after he became the Maintenance Supervisor and has played an integral role in the growth and evolution of Canterbury.

With over 40 years of maintenance experience and knowledge in many areas, including construction and painting, Randy is known for his steadfast commitment to being the "solutions guy" who Canterbury residents (and staff alike!) have been counting on for over 30 years.

In his spare time Randy likes to Camp, Fish,  Golf, and is known to many as a Master Baker.

Sally Sotto-Laparan is the Dietary Supervisor at Canterbury Foundation, bringing over 27 years of experience in the food service industry. Prior to joining Canterbury in 2000, she worked with Capital Care Group in the Food Services Department, where she developed a strong background in resident-focused meal service.

Sally leads and supervises the dietary team, ensuring that all meals comply with dietary guidelines, special diets, and individual preferences.

Sally also provides critical administrative support, staff supervision, and ongoing training for dietary personnel. She maintains and updates dining room procedures for servers and ensures resident safety remains a top priority during all meal services. Her dedication to excellence helps create a positive and respectful dining experience for every resident.

Chelcey Buck joined Canterbury Foundation in 2023 as a Life Enrichment Coordinator and in 2025, was promoted to Supervisor.  With a background in Biological Sciences, Laboratory & Research, Chelcey worked for 10 years conducting research at the University of Alberta.  After becoming a mum in 2013, she made the decision to stay home to focus on her family.   Returning to work in 2019 in part-time roles, she realized having a job that makes a difference is truly where her heart lies.

Under the guidance of the Resident Experience Manager, she continues to learn and grow as a leader, continuously evolving and progressing with the continued changes in the care needs of residents.  Having a strong and talented Life Enrichment team who feel as passionate about the care and wellbeing of the residents makes the goal of improving quality of life achievable. 

Tyson Breitkreutz, CPA, CA serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Canterbury Foundation. Now entering his fourth year on the board, he has contributed in progressively senior roles—first as a director, then as Treasurer, then Vice Chair, and now Chair—reflecting a deepening commitment to the organization and its mission of providing quality housing and care for Edmonton seniors. A Partner in the Tax practice at HGA CPA in Edmonton, Tyson earned his Bachelor of Commerce with Distinction from the University of Alberta and his Chartered Accountant designation in 2010. His grounding in tax, accounting, and financial stewardship supports the Foundation's focus on accountability and long-term sustainability.

Tyson's dedication to community service extends well beyond Canterbury. He has volunteered for seven years with the Elves Special Needs Society, an Edmonton charity supporting individuals with complex disabilities, including six years as its Treasurer. He has also given his time to the Canada Revenue Agency's Community Volunteer Income Tax Program, preparing tax returns for low-income seniors and newcomers to Canada. Across these roles, Tyson has applied his financial expertise in service of organizations that care for vulnerable members of the community.

Outside of his professional and volunteer commitments, Tyson and his wife are the proud parents of two daughters. Among the family's favourite things to do together is camping during Alberta's summer months. He brings to his role as Chair a sincere belief in Canterbury's mission and a commitment to ensuring that the seniors it serves continue to live with dignity, comfort, and a strong sense of community.

David Hopkyns is the Vice President of Business Development for MetCredit, Canada’s largest and most successful accounts receivable management firm. He has been with the firm for over 30 years, and is also Vice President of its subsidiary, Affinity Credit solutions.  He received his BA in Economics, Hons, and his ACI designation, and his Emeritus from the Credit Institute of Canada.  He also sits on the N.A.I.T Finance and Advisory committee, and is currently the Past Chair, President and Dean of The Credit Institute of Canada.  He has produced and presented many seminars for clients, the University of Alberta, and NAIT. 

David’s father Dr. J.C.W. Hopkyns, FRCP was a founding member of the Canterbury Foundation.  David is married with 2 grown children, and enjoys their cabins, and many trips to the mountains for skiing. He is a member of the St Aidan and St Hilda Anglican church. 

Rev. Clare Louise Stewart completed an undergraduate degree in Geological Engineering and a Master of Science in Earth Sciences (Hydrogeology) at the University of Waterloo. Clare spent 20+ years working for engineering consulting firms in the Region of Waterloo, as a technical specialist in the hydrogeology and environmental stewardship of land development projects, with a primary focus on waste management facilities.

After her son Brett finished high school, Clare left her career to pursue a Master of Divinity at Huron University College at Western University. There, Clare met and married a Newfoundlander, and thus began her ordained ministry as the Incumbent of the Parish of Port Saunders on the Great Northern Peninsula on Newfoundland’s west coast serving five small fishing villages/towns.

Clare came to the Edmonton area in February 2020, when her wife, the Captain Rev. Jennifer Renouf who is now a Military Chaplain and was posted to CFB Edmonton. Clare became the Incumbent of St. Timothy’s Anglican Church in October 2021 and was appointed Rector in April 2022.

Linda Wood Edwards owns LUE-42 Enterprises, which focuses on board governance. She has a Bachelor of Administration degree and is a Certified Association Executive, a Fellow of the Chartered Governance Institute of Canada, and an Accredited Director. Linda contracts as a Corporate Secretary to several organizations, is CGIC’s Governance Chief Examiner, and a governance and strategy facilitator for the international Directors Education Accreditation Program.

In addition to the Canterbury Foundation Board (via St. Augustine of Canterbury), Linda serves as a public member on the Council of a regulated profession. Linda has been Chair of the Community Services Advisory Board (City of Edmonton) and Women Building Futures. She is a former Executive Director/Registrar of a professional association and a current one for an industry association. Linda is the author of two books (board-related) and 14 plays (decidedly not board-related) as well as a popular monthly e-zine.

Linda is also a Certified Funeral Celebrant, a speaker/emcee, a fan of the Canadian Football League, and in training to become a Certified Beer Judge.

Diann joined Canterbury as a Board Director from 2004 to 2010 and in 2012 completed a two year term as Board Chair. She continued serving on a number of committees with Canterbury and in 2019 re-joined the Board as a Director. She continues to sit on a number of committees including the adhoc Project Development Committee which she has been a member of since its inception. After 47 years with the office of the Alberta Ombudsman, Diann retired in mid-2020, having started out as a clerk stenographer, then advancing into complaints investigation and ultimately completing her time with the Alberta Ombudsman as the Manager of Strategic Services. She was the lead investigator on a number of investigations that ultimately made public, including an examination of the out of country health services system, the complaint fee structure of one of the province’s health colleges and the administrative fairness of the Mental Health Review Panel process. Diann is passionate about administrative fairness in decision making and has spoken to a number of different organizations about the Alberta Ombudsman, including the 34th annual conference of the United States Ombudsman Association in Indianapolis, Indiana. Diann has served and continues to serve in numerous leadership roles at St. Timothy’s Anglican Church, one of Canterbury’s two founding parishes. Diann and her husband Keith have two adult children and two (the third is scheduled to arrive in December 2020) grandchildren.

Graham Henderson is a partner at McLennan Ross LLP. His practice focuses on construction disputes, contractual disputes, debt collection and defamation claims. He also advises on regulatory matters and bylaw enforcement. Graham was born and raised in Edmonton, and lived in close proximity to Canterbury for most of his life. He attended the University of Alberta, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts and his law degree. Graham enjoys travel, squash and downhill skiing, and previously worked as a certified ski instructor at a local ski club. He is married and has two daughters.

Penny Holmes is a recently retired nurse who worked in Women’s Health at both the Sturgeon Community Hospital in St Albert, and the Lois Hole Hospital for Women in Edmonton. Penny’s roles included being a labour and delivery nurse, Clinical Nurse Educator and most recently, as a Unit Manager. Penny’s focus has always been quality patient and family centered care with a foundation of evidenced based practice. She is pleased to be able to bring some of her experience to the Canterbury Board of Directors as well as the quality committee at Canterbury.

Penny graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland with her Bachelor of Nursing degree.

Prior to becoming a nurse, Penny worked in the food processing industry in British Columbia performing quality control and product development and was a plant Superintendent before leaving the workforce to raise her three sons.

Penny was born and raised in BC and moved to Newfoundland with her husband Stewart and their young family, before returning west and moving to St Albert in 1995. Throughout her adult life, Penny has volunteered with many organizations including the Greater Vancouver Childbirth Association, Boy Scouts of Canada, Olympian Swim Club and many roles within multiple parishes of the Anglican Church.

Retirement has allowed for more time to travel and spend time with her adult children and their families.

Candy was raised by her grandparents in rural Saskatchewan, and has a unique perspective on life, time and relationships. This experience enables her to form a strong bond with elders/seniors around her and foster a great deal of respect, patience and resilience including the value of hard work. 

She has a Policing and Medical Office and Unit Clerk background. Candy supports the Community Living Consultant in the final steps of the leasing process, to ensure the move into Canterbury is seamless. With her happy and positive can-do attitude, Candy is the point person for residents and their families as they settle into Canterbury, providing assistance and support as new residents transition into their new home.

Erin O’Neill brings over 20 years of experience across municipal and provincial government. Trained as an urban planner, she is known for tackling complex, cross-cutting challenges and delivering large-scale initiatives.

She is a collaborative and pragmatic leader, focused on bringing the right people together to move complex work forward while maintaining a clear focus on outcomes.

Her work has included helping advance Alberta’s health system refocusing, supporting the launch of the COVID-19 border pilot to safely reduce quarantine times, and playing a key role in Fort McMurray’s re-entry and recovery following the 2016 wildfire.

Erin was appointed Superintendent of Insurance, Pensions and Financial Institutions in 2026 with the Government of Alberta. She previously served as Senior Vice President of Finance and Shared Services at Alberta Health Services, where she oversaw all corporate service functions. Before that, she was Assistant Deputy Minister of Primary Care and Rural Health with the Government of Alberta.

Keith Farquharson brings over 30 years executive leadership experience in strategic planning, budgeting, staff development, product management, and customer relations along with technical leadership in manufacturing, quality assurance and process documentation to the Canterbury board. 

Keith retired from Stream-Flo industries as vice president engineering, with 37 years of service and after starting as the seventh member of the engineering team. In addition to his technical leadership, he is passionate about people development and was integral in the engineering and quality assurance teams’ growth to over 80 staff in both Canada and the US. 

Keith’s prior board experience includes NAIT’s mechanical engineering industry advisory board and work with the American Petroleum Institute (API), Energy Safety Canada and Canadian Standards Association (CSA), on various industry standards committees.  

Born and raised in Edmonton, Keith remembers biking in the field where Canterbury now stands.  Keith sees his role on the board to help Canterbury leaders maintain and advance the quality of care that brought both his parents and mother-in-law to choose Canterbury.  

Keith’s hobbies include projects in his wood shop, playing guitar or cooking on one of seven BBQs. He and his wife enjoy travel and the company of friends and family near and far.
