Management Team

Wendy King, Executive Director

Wendy King joined Canterbury Foundation as Executive Director in 2012. She is a CPA, CMA with over 30 years of accounting, business and management experience. She has been serving seniors in the continuing care sector since 2001 through the development and operation of publicly funded and private not-for-profit seniors’ residences. During her career, she was responsible for the operations of affordable supportive living sites and provided strategic, operational and financial direction and support for continuing care programs including long term care, designated supportive living, adult day support and home care.  She chaired the joint planning committee with SAGE, City of Edmonton, Servus Credit Union and Alberta Seniors to present the first Elder Abuse Forum in Alberta, bringing together professionals from across Canada to speak on the issue of elder abuse to an audience of 250.   Wendy collaborates with other operators in the sector to advocate and bring about improvements to seniors care and housing through board leadership with the Seniors Housing Society of Alberta, Alberta Association on Gerontology and the Alberta Seniors Communities Housing Association.

Wendy Ching, Director, Finance

Wendy Ching is a CPA, CMA. She achieved her accounting designation in 1995 and brings over 30 years accounting, project management and business management experience.  Her career commenced in the property management and real estate business and she later worked in the manufacturing industry where she was involved in payroll implementations and sales, distribution and inventory software implementations and consolidations and financial reporting for subsidiaries. In November 2004 she started with Canterbury and takes great pleasure in knowing that she can contribute her skills to help the residents, families and staff of Canterbury Foundation.

Heidi Hadubiak , Interim Director, Health Services

Heidi Hadubiak has joined Canterbury as the Interim Director of Health Services. She holds a Bachelor’s of Nursing, an MBA and is a Certified Executive Coach. Heidi brings over 15 years of healthcare leadership to Canterbury in addition to her frontline clinical experience in nursing. Having worked across a variety of healthcare sectors and specialties, she brings passion and a commitment to quality and innovation to her work. Her most recent experience includes work in geriatrics, general medicine, primary care, urgent care, oncology, stroke care and mental health. Heidi believes her capacity to build relationships and teams are integral to effectively identifying program objectives, establishing and working towards milestones, and taking action to stay on track towards targeted outcomes.

Warren Law, Director of Facilities

Warren has nearly 20 years of experience in maintenance including front line services, supervisory and management experience. Before emigrating to Canada in 2013, he worked as a Maintenance Engineer in a large UK based hospital trust. In Canada he achieved his Journeyman Plumber qualification and worked in Maintenance Management at Broadstreet Properties looking after 9 residential apartment buildings and 63 townhouses in Alberta.

Warren joined Canterbury Foundation in 2016 and he is currently undertaking his FMP credential. He looks forward to bringing positive changes to the organization.

Ajay Lala, Executive Chef

Ajay Lala an executive chef and a culinary master who has won many regional and national awards. His passion for cooking and over 25 years of culinary experience make him a perfect addition to Canterbury Foundation, where he can work on an innovative and nutritious menu for our residents.

Ajay believes in using local products, and truly enjoys creating wide range of menu items for residents while keeping their nutrition and health top of mind.

Jelena Bojic, Director, Fund Development

Jelena brings several years of experience in fund development, marketing, communications and public relations. She moved to Canada after completing a college diploma in Business Management in Montenegro, former Yugoslavia, in 1999 and has been an Edmontonian since.

Jelena is passionate about not-for-profit work and fundraising, and is truly excited to support Canterbury Foundation in its fundraising efforts, and to help the team in enhancing the quality of care we offer to our residents.

Liliana Mayo, Director of HR and Organizational Effectiveness

Liliana brings several years of management, including operational and human resource management, experience from both the private and not-for-profit sector to Canterbury Foundation. She has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alberta, is an Adult and Continuing Education graduate, has received a Certificate in the Foundations of NeuroLeadership, and brings other management and labour relations education and experience. Liliana has a passion for understanding the impact of leadership on organizational outcomes and improving individual, team and organizational performance. She looks forward to being a positive influence in the growth and success of Canterbury Foundation.

Helene Tomusiak-Donahue MHSA FACHE, Director of Quality & Innovations

Helene joined Canterbury Foundation in September 2015 as Accreditation Specialist to lead and coordinate Accreditation Canada’s Qmentum Program. She brings extensive senior management, consulting and health care experience to her role at Canterbury. Helene has a master’s degree in health services administration and an undergraduate degree with a major in economics, both from the University of Alberta, and credits from Duke University in intellectual property law and environmental law. Her clinical experience includes  supervisory and research  positions in the clinical chemistry, microbiology and hematology laboratories of  academic teaching hospitals as a registered medical laboratory  technologist. She is a Certified Health Executive (Canada) and a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Helene enjoys working at Canterbury and getting to know the residents, staff and volunteers over the past two years.

Georges Baraki, Director, General Services

Georges Baraki has been an Executive Chef since 1988.  He has both Journeyman and a Red Seal  Chef credential. He has worked in an executive position in two prominent Edmonton hotels prior to joining Canterbury Foundation  in 1993 and has over 30 years of experience in hotel and seniors housing and retirement home settings. For two years he has assumed the responsibility of the Director General Services. Overseeing the maintenance, housekeeping, dietary departments, and building upgrades and the modernization project.
