Life at Canterbury for me is retiring with dignity for body, mind and soul.

Message from the Executive Director 2016/17

Greetings friends!

We are so pleased to be able to present another edition of Canterbury Tales to you!  Much has happened since our last publication and a few more firsts!

This spring, the Board of Directors revisited our core values.  They wanted to ensure that the services we provide place the resident and family at the centre of all that we do.  Further, it was important to them that our core values incorporate the concepts of innovation and continuous quality improvement.  As a leader in the provision of care and accommodation to seniors, our core values accurately reflect the essence of how we bring to reality the mission and vision of the organization.

While many charitable organizations hold golf tournaments every year, our charitable golf tournament on June 27th of this year was a first for us!   The day started off early at 7:00 a.m. with a hot breakfast at the Highlands Golf Club house with approximately 77 golfers hitting the course and finishing with a delicious lunch and prizes at noon.  We are so grateful to all our friends, resident family members, vendors and volunteers for making this event a success!   There is no question about your belief in the value of what we do and our plans for continuing to make a difference to the lives of seniors in the community!  We hope to double the number of golfers next year at the June 27, 2017 event and we hope that you will join us.  Please stay turned for more information!

The Court Modernization and Expansion project is that much closer to becoming a reality.  The Canterbury Foundation Board approved that we explore financing options and proceed with the rezoning application as we will be adding 46 more suites to Canterbury Court in addition to the long overdue renovations to our 42 year old building.  We are expecting the rezoning application to be approved by the City around mid-2017.  Exciting times for the Board, staff, residents and their families!

Our Promise of Home Fall Fundraising Gala on October 21st at the Royal Glenora Club was the event of the year for us!  We couldn’t have been more pleased that we were able to raise $50,000 for our Community Outreach Program.  Thank you so much to the volunteers, sponsors and donors for your commitment to quality programs at Canterbury!

This year is quickly coming to an end and while the New Year around the corner promises adventure and new experiences, it also promises us the comfort of family and friends and the Promise of Home at Canterbury!

Bless you all,

Wendy King,

Executive Director
